Olivia's Basket Summer 2010
by Teresa Cornett

The well-used conversion vans from the YWAM Ensenada base started rumbling up the dusty mountain where the poorest people in town make their homes from leftover billboards, pressed plywood and bailing wire. We looked out the windows at graffiti-marked cinder block structures and the occasional nicer homes made of concrete painted in lime green or pool-supply store blue. The whole scene reminded me of the setting in Wall-E, especially because the skies remained overcast for most of our trip. I was remembering the verse from Isaiah 52:
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!"
The feet that brought good news, good tidings and peace were not all American feet. "Team Ray" was made up of what I later called "a pie of the Ray's lives." There were people who had met the Rays through their work with Youth With a Mission from Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland, Hawaii, and Elm Springs, friends from their home church, family from both sides, their daughters' best buds, and even friends made at the Fayetteville Athletic Club. This outreach wasn't just about house-building for Isabella and her family, but also about building more faith and sustenance to cope with loss and to claim redemption and hope.
How beautiful on the mountains were the feet of the barrio children who played futbol all day with our kids and the awesome new soccer balls brought from Dallas and the local Walmart. How beautiful were the smiles of the girls who enjoyed the gift of a fresh orange from our lunch. How beautiful were Isabella and her friend cooking fish tacos in a huge cast iron bowl for our team. How beautiful was her declaration that she had only been walking with the Lord for a year, and He'd answered her prayers for a safer house for her two little granddaughters. How beautiful that we could all stand in a circle when the house was finished and say together, Our God reigns!
Thank you to everyone who supported this outreach with your prayers, encouragement, and gifts to www.oliviasbasket.org!
Honduras 2010
A small team from Grace Church NWA traveled to Yamaranguila, Hondurus and then trekked up the Opalaca Mountains. Here's a little update from the Warrens about the impact of their trip.
We took a very eventful trip to the mountains with the team from our home church, Grace Church of NW Arkansas. We had an awesome time, and we were truly blessed by all the things accomplished. God gave an opportunity to build a swingset in the small community of Agua Caliente. And, something that most American's can't even imagine, when the children got on the swings, we had to teach them how to do it because they had never been on a swing! It was quite rewarding to see their smiling faces as they learned how to do something that we take for granted in the US! We know that swingset will bless the community and the school! Something to outlive us being there is truly a blessing from God!
