Preparing for Easter
Monday, March 29, 2010 at 4:24PM Naturally every week is holy, but each year we encounter a time when we reflect on and celebrate what we believe to be the most important moment in the history of our world. This year we're in a remarkable place in our study of 1 Corinthians. We are learning more about the importance of deference and mutual submission in our relationships just as we celebrate our Lord's return to Jerusalem and his example of submission to his Father and the earthly authorities.
When we gather on Sunday, we will celebrate together in our worship time with food and fellowship. Our journey will take us from Exodus to Easter and on to our present day. We will consider Christ our Passover lamb and the significance of his sacrifice, the importance of sharing, and the need to partake of the Lord's Supper with humble hearts and right relationships. Our typical Easter dinner will be taking place within our service, so prepare to eat an early lunch and bring a little extra to be sure we have enough to share with our guests.
This week prepare yourselves to mourn the death of our Lord and celebrate his resurrection by examining your relationships. Is your heart right toward those to whom you should be submitted or are your thoughts of them and feelings toward them marked by pride and arrogance? Take time to ruthlessly examine your own heart. This is not a time to worry about others or address wrongs done to you. This week consider your wrongs and wherever possible make them right. Then gather with us next Sunday to present your offerings with a clean heart, to fellowship with one another knowing that your relationships are marked by the love of your Savior.
