One of my favorite things to do is make collages. Whenever I get new magazines or go to new places, I love to collect different images, textures, and materials that I could one day use in a collage. Sometimes my collections of random pieces of paper, fabrics, and other materials end up just sitting in folders or baskets just waiting to be put together. Sometimes I find it overwhelming when I am looking at all the different pieces and have a hard time imagining how these random things could come together to create something beautiful together. But I know somehow, these pieces are meant to be put together. Our passage this week reminds me of this process of collaging. This Sunday we’re going to dig into the practice of integrating all the pieces of life we’ve gathered along our faith journeys and see how putting them together can make our faith grow stronger as individuals and as a community.

Big Idea

As we grow and journey on in our faith, we are called to integrate all the things we gather along the way– experiences, emotions, doubts, knowledge, relationships, and environments– in with our core beliefs.

Take Away

As we integrate all of the things we gather along our faith journey together, our faith becomes stronger and deeper, we learn to view the world around us more like Christ, and we can strengthen our relationships with one another.

Hebrews 5:11-14 (NET)

How does this fit with Belong, Become, Believe?

The folks who are part of our Grace Church family come from different cultures, faith traditions, points of view which makes for some interesting conversations as we figure out together what it means to live in the Kingdom every day. This is why we focus on how we can integrate our beliefs and practices together as we strive to love the world around us. The work of integrating our experiences, questions, identities, and relationships into the fabric of our faith helps us become the people God has created us to be. In doing so, we learn to value and celebrate the diversity of our community.
